Notes: (Not part of final AP Portfolio)
10/3/24
For my AP portfolio I will be exploring the topic of emotional expression and economic disparity through portraits
11/13/24
I have been doing a lot of thinking about my AP Portfolio thesis, and I feel like it needs to be something that I can really be passionate about. So, that being said, I want to stay in the realm of portraits and painting people, but I think I want to shift the main focus of my portfolio to growing up and the struggles that life brings.
12/21/23
I have realized that I need to make a broader theme for my AP Portfolio because I keep overthinking each thing I do and each piece I make. Current idea for AP Portfolio: How can I find different and new ways to express people in portraits and figure drawings?
5/14/24
How can I express world problems such as economic disparity, corrupt government through portraits and paintings with people
5/28/24
The “Working In A Series” projects over the past couple of weeks have really helped me get in a bit of an “artist flow” as Mr. Y puts it. Through making these quick paintings I think it has really cleared up my main inquiry for my project and I am on a better path to finishing my portfolio. Also, I think this series has helped me get a little better at acrylic painting.
This series shows experimentation with portraiture because in one of my paintings I did a skull which is the basis of all portraits, and in the other painting, I implemented a surrealist aspect that I usually would be uncomfortable doing.
9/5/24
Pretty happy with my inquiry at this point, but I need to try and unify the ideas behind my artworks. I got some good ideas from the Project Proposals assignment, so I am looking forward to working on those. Also, I think I need to show more exploration and experimentation. I think doing sketchbook spreads could be a good way to do this. I'm gonna see if I can find some more examples of explorations to try and see what the AP graders are looking for.
I just updated my website and added the captions for all the works so far. I don't have the measurements for my works so I need to get those. I moved all my works to the Sustained Inquiry section, so that's why I have nothing in my Selected Works section.
How did this first term & first project develop the inquiry further?
I think this first term and project helped me to develop my skills painting in acrylic. It was hard painting accurate features in such a small space, but it was also pretty rewarding once I got it to where I wanted. I am also working on a painting at an art class out of class, so that has been fun working in oil paint. I think these works have helped me to move my inquiry further in the way that I have more pieces to submit, but I also am still a little unclear on my inquiry, so I might end up changing it so it fits my paintings more.

Inquiry:
How can I express messages promoting social change through different forms of portraiture?
Want to rework to include my own perspective and use of baby photos in my works, but not sure how to do it.

Sustained Investigation
Identify the inquiry that guided your sustained investigation.
Describe ways your sustained investigation developed through practice, experimentation, and revision.
I have always taken interest in drawing people because I like how expressive and complex we are. We often forget the complexity in our everyday facial expressions, body language, and verbal language that we use to express our hopes, desires, and feelings. However, people have many flaws. Moving back to the bigger picture people have caused many problems such as global warming, political injustice, economic disparity, and more. However, these problems can also be solved by people. Through my sustained investigation, I hoped to explore and add deeper meaning to my love of drawing people through the inquiry question, “How can I express messages promoting social change through different forms of portraiture?”
